Technique Class Information
Every YMS Band student will have one band technique class a week, just like you did in 5th and 6th grade band. Band lessons will help you become a better musician in so many ways! They will help you develop your specific instrument skills, technique, your goal-setting abilities, and so much more.

The music goals for technique classes will consist of:
Materials
You will need to bring all required band materials to your band lessons. This includes your instrument, music binder, Essential Elements Book, concert music, and at least one pencil.
Lesson Goal Cards
Each lesson you will receive a weekly goal card. You will turn in your goal card at the next lesson. You will be asked to fill in the goal card with checks, stars, and practice minutes.
Location
If your lesson is during advisory, you will meet in the band room or a practice room. If you lesson is during band, you will meet in a practice room or the teacher’s lounge.
Playing Test Recordings
Canvas
You will record yourself playing in Canvas as a media file.

- You will have one technique class a week.
- Your band lessons will take place on the same day & at the same time each week.
- Your band lessons will be held either during your band class or your advisory class.
- You will not be pulled out of other classes for band lessons.

- Scales
- Etudes (short songs)
- Book Songs
- Concert Music
- Warm-Ups

- You will have a playing test approximately every other week.
- You will use your Chromebook at home to submit a recording of yourself playing the playing test.
- You will not do your playing test at school.
- You will submit your recording through Canvas.
